How to Install Track Light Fixtures

There are five basic steps to installing track light fixtures, picking your track standard, layout and power issues, choosing lamps and track light fixtures, installing the fixtures, and picking your bulbs. It is very simple and doesn't take much time at all. There are a few tips you should know to make this installation process simple.

First, most people say to pick the track standard first but you should actually pick the track light fixtures that you want first. The reason is that the fixtures don't go with every track and fit on them. Therefore, if you pick the track, then your track light fixture has to be based on the track system you purchased. This doesn't make any sense at all because people are not looking at the track itself, they are looking at the light fixtures. Pick the light fixtures you like best first.

The second step is to find tracks that work with the light fixtures you want to have installed. The track is the foundation of the track lighting. This is the piece that attaches to the ceiling, and then the track light fixtures attach to it.

The third step is determining the layout and power of your track light fixtures system. Where do you want the track lighting and is there already a junction box in the ceiling to provide power? If not, you might need to hire an electrician. There are systems like a plug and cord set that is easy to install and eliminates the electrician. You have two options when setting up the layout and the power. The first method you can bring a power supply to a junction box and the second method you can run a power cord from the track to the electrical outlet. Once you have determined the layout issues, then you can mount the track and run the power for the track light fixtures.

The fourth step to installing track light fixtures is to attach the fixtures to the tracks that have been mounted in the ceiling.

The final step is to pick your bulbs that you like the best. Bulbs for track light fixxtures can be MR16 or MR11. There are two different types based on the beam angles you are trying to achieve. Floods are 25 and up and provide the larger beam angles and spots provide the smaller beam angles and are 25 and under.
