I love my WAC (Women's Army Corps.) wife even if it is hard to get her to see the light. She is retired now, but she is every bit as stubborn as she was when we met over forty years ago. Sometimes it is a good thing, but I'll admit I got pretty frustrated when it came time to remodel our aging kitchen with W.A.C. Light.
I had seen some wonderful modern lighting in one of my home improvement magazines made by W.A.C. Lighting. They were exactly what we needed for our dark kitchen. The kids had been begging us to update the look of the place—especially our design-school grad granddaughter. Not to say I didn't want the better lighting: I shared cooking detail with Beth. I like to see what I'm working on!
I thought the shared acronym would impress my wife—who has always been quite proud of the WAC name. Nope. She still wanted to have her dated ceiling fixtures. Why? Habit or familiarity, I guess. Besides balking at the modern look, she just could not break away from the notion that a company younger than our children could possibly supply us with what we need.
Maybe it was my contrary inner-self, or just sheer stubbornness on my own part, but I installed them anyway while she was on a long trip to see our son and his wife. I installed a Standard Track with Premier Line Voltage Track Heads over the stove and cabinet area and put some decorative but functional pendant lights above the center island. It definitely gave the old place a touch of class—especially with the new granite countertop I had installed. Sure, she was a little irked at the fact I had not told her, but she couldn't deny the results. The new cabinets and the new lights went together perfectly. It was like buying a brand new house with a fresh kitchen. She couldn't help loving them.
So now my WAC loves W.A.C. lights and we are expanding our remodeling to other areas of the house. No doubt, W.A.C. light will play a starring role there as well!
